343 Industries studio head Dan Ayoub took the center stage at The Game Awards 2016 on Thursday, Dec. 1 to reveal that "Halo Wars: Definitive Edition" will arrive this month; but brace yourselves, it will only be available for a select few. According to Ayoub, players who bought the digital version of "Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition" will be eligible to receive a "special preview access" on the impending remastered version of the hit real-time strategy video game for Xbox One and Windows 10 this month.
Players will be able to access "Halo Wars: Definitive Edition" starting Dec. 20. The original game's overhauled version dubbed as, "Halo Wars: Definitive Edition", will feature enhanced graphics, more achievements, and all the DLC (downloadable content) developed for the original version, IGN reported. Ayoub also unraveled a cinematic trailer for "Halo Wars 2" at The Game Awards, which is shown below. The trailer centered on the story behind a forthcoming strategy sequel and its main antagonist, Atriox, GameSpot revealed.
At E3 2016 in June, it was revealed that "Halo Wars: Definitive Edition" would be packaged with "Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition". However, it remains to be seen when or if the games will be sold independently. The full version of "Halo Wars: Definitive Edition" will launch on February 21, along with the Ultimate Edition of "Halo Wars 2." While the studio has not yet revealed how the said preview build will be rolled out for eligible players, considering that it requires the digital version of "Halo Wars 2," it is likely to be delivered as a DLC.
"Halo Wars: Definitive Edition" will primarily serve as an ardent recreation of the original 2009 game, "Halo Wars" --- complete with better graphics, audio, and original DLCs. However, it is not likely to improve upon the simplified gameplay.
