LG is gearing up to debut the highly anticipated successor to its G5 flagship, the LG G6, in its bid to win over consumers.
Last year's LG G5 wasn't quite a big hit among avid smartphone users; the device garnered mixed reviews with semi-modular parts dubbed as Friends. To ensure that the new model does not meet the same disappointing fate of its precursor, the G6 is likely to completely oust the modular design and make it more user-friendly.
Despite the lack of official announcement, rumors on its release date and specs are already running rampant, indicating that LG is set to announce details on the IRIS scanner and mobile payment technologies next year with G6's arrival. The company has already introduced its new module, which boasts the front camera and the IRIS sensor, at a recently held event in South Korea, Phone Radar reported.
Furthermore, the G6 is expected to come with a removable battery.
There's hearsay that LG Electronics will resort to adding bevies of technologies such as mobile payment and iris recognition for the LG G6. Tech pundits also believe it is imperative for the tech firm to rise above the competition with its impending flagship smartphone, to compensate for the 800 billion won (about $67 million) loss caused by below average sales of the G5 model, according to Korea Herald.
In addition, the publication claims that an all-in-one module, which LG teased at an electronic show earlier this year, could possibly serve as camera and iris scanner for the LG G6. With this technology, the device is likely to have more edge over some of its competitors including the iPhone 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8.
Moreover, LG is rumored to bring back the removable battery citing safety concerns. Some reports even suggest that this move stems from the recent Galaxy Note 7 fiasco, where Samsung came under fire from those who bought the highly volatile smartphone.
Multiple reports suggest that LG G6's release date is set to be announced on MWC (Mobile World Congress) 2017.
