Andy Cohen revealed on "Live with Kelly" last Friday about his melanoma scare. The long-time friends recalled on the show about Cohen's recent health condition. Cohen had a skin cancer scare, which was treated early thanks to persistent urging by his friend Ripa and her husband.
Andy Cohen admits he is fond of sunbathing and getting a tan, but after the skin cancer scare, he is more careful about sun exposure and its harmful effects. The early diagnosis and treatment were given after Kelly Ripa and her husband Mark Conseulos first noticed a dark pigmentation around Cohen's lips. Andy Cohen initially brushed it aside and assured them that it was nothing.
On "Live with Kelly", Andy Cohen recalls the time when Kelly convinced him to consult a specialist in order to check the mark on his lip area. This happened last April during a party that they attended, according to MSN. Andy admitted he did not have it checked immediately. After Ripa's persistent persuasion, he had it checked by a specialist and when he did, it was discovered that it was melanoma.
According to Skin Cancer Foundation, the most deadly form skin cancer is melanoma. The common cause of melanoma is ultraviolet radiation from unprotected sun exposure and frequent tanning bed sessions, which are some of Andy Cohen's self-indulgence. The UV radiation causes skin mutation leading to skin cell proliferation in an abnormal state and the formation of malignant tumors. Melanomas appear as black or brown, but may also appear as skin-colored, red, pink, shades of purple, bluish or whitish in appearance with noticeable uneven borders which is distinct from regular moles. Moles can become melanomas if kept unprotected from the UV rays.
Andy Cohen further shared to the audience his current status. He had the whole melanoma removed and everything is fine with his condition. He dodged a major health scare thanks to Ripa's persistence. His relationship with the sun has drastically changed, he further revealed.
