For months now, there have been rumors that 20th Century Fox's "Wolverine 3" will cast Logan with another mutant character named X-23. Now, it has been confirmed after the studio released a couple of new images that may give fans a hint of the movie's storyline.
"Wolverine 3'' is one of the most highly-anticipated movies for next year. 20th Century Fox has been teasing the public with a slew of photos, including one that shows Wolverine protecting the young mutant X-23 as they escape from what appears to be an explosion. Another photo seems to tell the fate of what happened to Patrick Stewart's Professor X. One of the most telling photos is the scar on Logan's hands, suggesting his mutation may be wearing off in "Wolverine 3", MovieWeb has stated.
For those familiar with the comic book, Laura Kinney is X-23, a female clone-copy of Wolverine who was cloned from a damaged copy of his genome. She has the same abilities as Wolverine does, including healing abilities and retractable claws on her hands and feet. In short, she's Wolverine's daughter in every aspect.
The arrival of X-23 has lead fans to speculate that this could well be Logan's last outing as he passes the torch to X-23. This speculation intensified when Hugh Jackman released the first official poster which shows Logan holding a child's hand with his adamantine claws, as reported by Outer Places.
The movie seems to confirm the end of the original cast of X-men who are on their way out. One of the photos shows Logan's scarred hands which is said to be based on the Old Man Logan comics, where Logan is destroyed emotionally and mentally, unable to resume being Wolverine. This may also be the final movie for Patrick Stewart's Professor X since it is being indicated that he is sick and his memory is failing.
With "Wolverine 3" being the last of the original X-Men characters, 20th Century Fox will then be free to develop The New Mutants that will introduce a new cast of X-Men characters.
