The BMW 3-Series, which introduced its latest generation for the 2012 model year, will add two new models to its lineup this fall, and will add options to existing models.
The new versions are the 320i EfficientDynamics Edition Sedan and the 316i Sedan.
The 320i EfficientDynamics is powered by a 1.6-litre, 170 horsepower four-cylinder gasoline engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology. The engine is capable of accelerating from 0 to 60 mph in under 7.6 seconds. The engine receives 45.2 mpg and issues far fewer carbon dioxide emissions.
The 316i Sedan is the new entry-level addition to the 3-Series. It too is powered by a 1.6-litre, four-cylinder petrol engine with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology, this one capable of136 horsepower. It has a six-speed manual transmission as standard, with an eight-speed automatic transmission offered as an option. Acceleration from 0 to 60 occurs in 8.9 seconds in the stick shift, and 9.2 seconds for the manual. Top speed for both variants is 130 mph.
The existing 3-Series Touring will now come with additional engine options. For the series' gasoline options, the 245-horsepower 328i Touring sedan will be joined by a 184-horsepower 320i Touring. For the diesel engine options, the 258-horsepower 330d Touring will be joined by the 318d Touring and the 316d Touring. These models too have a standard 6-speed manual transmission, and an 8-speed automatic option.
The 2-litre engine featured in the new gasoline model is also equipped with BMW TwinPower Turbo Technology. The BMW 320i Touring accelerates from 0 to 60 mpg in less than 7.5 seconds, and has a top speed of 145 mph for the automatic and 142 mph for the manual.
