It was just over two years ago when the Lamborghini Huracan made a splash at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, replacing the venerable Gallardo to become the entry-level supercar. To date, the Gallardo has become the company's top-selling car, but Lamborghini was overdue to produce another model.
The Lamborghini Huracan employs a more aggressive stance with sharper cues and more pronounced side skirts. It's also longer and wider than its predecessor, with its interior redesigned into a fighter jet-like cockpit with six-sided instrument clusters and a wide 12.3-inch TFT screen. Underneath the hood houses is the updated 5.2-liter V-10 with improved fuel economy. Since its debut, it has sold more than 3,000 units and spawned several versions.
The news that Lamborghini may be working on a Huracan Spyder Performante comes as no surprise to reporters covering the beat as the combination of names had been used by Lamborghini before, like the Gallardo LP 570-4 Spyder Performante, which was a convertible version of the Gallardo Superleggera. It was introduced in 2011 and remained in production until it was phased out in 2013, according to TopSpeed.
Since the rumors started about the Huracan Spyder Performante, Lamborghini has yet to roll out a prototype for testing, but there's speculation that it will be based on the Huracan Superleggera. By all indications, it will be even lighter than the Superleggera --- with more aluminum and carbon fiber elements, which will result in an even lighter weight compared to previous models.
There has been no disclosure on powertrain and engine details, but it's assumed that the Huracan Spyder Performante will get the same 5.2-litre V-10 from the Superleggera. Power output will also be improved a bit from the standard 602 horsepower range due to its lighter weight, as reported by Handi.TECH.
Learning from Lamborghini's past behavior on their supercars, there is no doubt that this model will be produced. The company has already applied for the Huracan Performante name trademark last October 19. We can expect something special from this development very soon as more details are revealed. Stay tuned.
