In celebration of the 2017 IS launch, Lexus gave its entry-level sports sedan some heat, literally. A highly-customized version of the vehicle debuted at the LA Auto Show on Friday called the Sriracha IS, named after the iconic sweet and spicy hot sauce of Huy Fong Foods.
Certainly not short on whimsical imagination, the Lexus Sriracha IS's sleek coat of red paint has been injected with real Sriracha sauce. It also boasts finishes based on the hot sauce's green cap on its exterior mirrors, mood lighting, grille surround, seat stiching and brake calipers, reported Car and Driver.
Additional interior features include Huy Fong Foods' signature rooster logo on the custom badging and seats, a Sriracha-injected steering wheel and Sriracha hot seat warmers. The steering wheel was created from Sriracha-like liquid, according to Lexus, and the seat warmers come with climate controls that go up to "Sriracha hot."
Perhaps most bizzare of all, the Lexus Sriracha comes with a built-in hot sauce dispenser activated by an emergency chili button in the key fob, just in case the 43 Sriracha bottles in the trunk of the car aren't enough. A Lexus spokesperson, Laura Conrad, told the LA Times the Lexus Sriracha seemed like a perfect fit to the food company that has a "cult-like following," reported SFGate.
The CEO and founder of Huy Fong Foods, meanwhile, said in a statement that he was humbled to see the overwhelming reaction to his condiment company's unusual tie-up with the Japanese luxury carmaker. He said Lexus and Sriracha were the "perfect mix for a hot and spicy car, just the way I like it," reported BNN.
According to Techno Buffalo, a West Coast Customs team, the same group behind MTV's "Pimp My Ride," was commissioned to create the one-of-a-kind Lexus Sriracha IS. There is no indication that Lexus intends to produce the vehicle, but it will continue to wow chili fans and non-fans alike at the LA Auto Show until Nov. 27.
