American Honda in collaboration with the ride for kids and the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF) made its annual appearance for the 2016 Los Angeles ride for kids event on October 29. American Honda being the presenting sponsor celebrated its 25-years anniversary, it teamed up with the ride for kids and hosted the event at its Torrance headquarters. More than 600 motorcycle rides and supporters including associates from Honda's operations in Torrance, participated in the event, where they raised more than $220,000 to support the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF) in the fight against childhood brain tumors.
This year's Los Angeles ride for kids 40 miles ride began at the American Honda Motor Company campus in Torrance, before makings its way towards the Palos Verdes Peninsula (PVP), from which drivers headed and passed through various communities coming to a halt at the Port of Los Angeles Crafted warehouse for closing ceremonies. Ride for Kids event is the longest-running and most successful motorcycle charity ride event in the nation. Since 1984, cyclists have participated in the events and have raised funds to help cure children with brain tumors, thereby reducing the challenges of childhood brain tumors.
The PBTF was created in 1991 by the founder of Ride for Kids, Mike Traynor, and is now the world's leading non-profit funder of research into childhood brain tumors. it raised more $125,000 during the 2015 Los Angeles ride for kids event which gathered nearly 700 supporters according to Racer xonline. It has raised more than $70 million since 1984, Honda has been a sponsor for this event since 1991.The events also fund free educational resources, college scholarships for brain tumor survivors, and emergency financial aid for families.
Honda has supported rides across a number of its operations in the United States. It is reported by Honda in America that the focus of this event has always remained on two things - the children and Honda's commitment to helping the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation bring an end to this terrible disease. Chuck Boderman, vice president of the Honda Motorcycle Division, said "the Honda team is passionate about Ride for Kids and this event is a highlight for our associates each year, Sharing our love of motorsports is second only to making a difference for those families who could use some hope and help."
Motorcyclist is given the chance to meet with the children they are raising funds to help, many of whom participate in the event, participants are also given the chance to listen to children who have been inflicted with this disease and the doctors who are putting in their best to fighting childhood brain tumors every day. Honda News reported that the event promotes the positive aspects of the sport of motorcycling and the positive contributions to the community made by motorcycle enthusiasts.
