Hyundai has revealed what car shoppers will encounter in the 2013 Genesis premium sedan. The Korean carmaker has streamlined the model's powertrain lineup and added an advanced navigation system with Blue Link telematics.
The 5.0-liter direct-injected Tau V8 engine will now be offered solely in the 5.0 R-Spec model. The 4.6-liter V8 engine will no longer be available; while the 3.8-liter Lambda powertrain remains available with premium and technology packages.
The Tau V8, which Hyundai calls its most powerful engine ever, works in conjunction with a Hyundai-made eight-speed automatic transmission with shiftronic manual capability.
The Genesis 3.8 technology package and 5.0 R-Spec models have available a driver information system display with navigation and multi-media controller. The system provides enhanced voice-recognition and navigation screen layouts, and a key system designed to minimize driver distraction. It also has music, image and video storage; and Bluetooth capability.
The system's voice recognition understands addresses and cities, while the screen displays speeds limits, the next three navigation steps, and points of interest that include a Zagat rating of area restaurants. The SiriusXM data service has also been enhanced.
Blue Link comes with a free year-long trial period and is available in three packages: Assurance, Essentials, and Guidance. The Assurance package offers automatic collision notification and assistance, SOS emergency assistance, and enhanced roadside assistance.
The two higher-grade packages offer a wealth of diagnostic, information, communication, vehicle recovery, and security features.
The Essentials Package includes remote engine start, location sharing, voice text messaging, automatic diagnostic trouble code, and web vehicle diagnostics. Stolen vehicle features include recovery, slowdown, and immobilization.
The Guidance Package's point-of-interest search feature come with advanced voice recognition and web search and download. Guidance also includes turn-by-turn navigation, traffic and weather updates, eco-coach, and gas station locator with prices.
