Bugatti Veyron, What's In The Name
It is recalled that Veyron is one of the most powerful sports cars of the moment; also the fastest because it can accelerate up to 415 km/h and do the zero to 100 km/h in just 2.5 seconds. The history of this powerful car is as colorful as ever.
It was named after Pierre Veyron, a car engine turned racing driver. Pierre never really wanted to be a race driver. He had always wanted to be an engineer but his friend Albert Divo insisted and finally convinced him to try his luck in races as Divo seen his potential.
In 1930, Veyron bought a Bugatti 37 A and begun to compete. Two years later he met with Jean Bugatti, sone of the founder of the brand who offered the perfect option to be a driver and engineer in Bugatti's team. From that combination came several wins and a historic car: the Bugatti Type 51 A.
Veyron also worked with the development of Type 57. It was precisely with the Bugatti Type 57C with which he achieved his greatest milestone in competition: win the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The following year war broke out and Pierre Veyron was recruited along with other racers. Others ran unlucky and died in camps but Veyron survived and was awarded the medal of the Legion of Honor. Then he returned to work at Bugatti and as a tribute to what he did for the brand and for saving the nation, named the Bugatti Veyron.
