Honda will celebrate the official production launch of the 2013 Honda Accord on Monday, August 20 with a media event at its plant in Marysville, Ohio.

The 2013 model is the ninth-generation Accord. Honda will soon officially mark 30 years of vehicle production in North America; and previous generations of Accords will be on display at Monday's event.

Production began at the Marysville Auto Plant on November 1, 1982.

Honda last week released photos of the exteriors of the 2013 Accord two-door and Sedan Touring versions.

"This car is the most sculpted and the most dynamic Accord yet," Vicki Poponi, assistant vice president of product planning for American Honda, said in a statement. "Following Honda's long-held philosophy of 'man maximum, machine minimum,' the beautiful exterior evolved from a focus on interior space and the needs of the people inside it."

In releasing the photos, Honda said that the 2013 Accord sedan and coupe have increased room for both passengers and cargo, while the overall length of the car has been reduced "contributing to a sportier driving character and easier parking".

Honda said that other details will have to wait until the fall; but when they unveiled the 2013 Accord Concept in January, they revealed that it would have three new powertrains.

These included Honda's "Earth Dreams" 2.4-liter, 16-value DOHC i-VTEC four-cylinder engine with direct injection that is new to the US.

The 2013 would also have available a new plug-in hybrid system with two motors and three modes: all-electric, all-gasoline, and direct-drive.
