This week, the Road Atlanta event occurred which was both a bittersweet experience for the final round. With the Mazda Prototype Lites by Cooper Tires championship ended, so did the Austin Versteeg professional racing career this year.
The Journey Of A Race Car Driver
Over the weekend, Austin Versteeg spent two practice days around the Road Atlanta track prepping for the Mazda Prototype Lites championship by Cooper Tires. As the car was fine-tuned during practice, Versteeg was ready and set to race to the finish.
During the race, Versteeg was able to nail down seven wins and nine podium finishes out of 12 runs for this year. Placing second in the Lites 1 competition and with five points behind due to engine troubles, Versteeg finally decided to end his racing career this year with the competition as his last hurrah for 2016, reported Motor Sport.
According to the race car driver, he had no regrets throughout his career. In fact, he revealed that he was more than happy to be a part of the JDC Motorsports crew along with being sponsored by people who pushed him to be better in his career.
How Did The Race Go?
As reported by Motor Sports, the race car driver who won the Indy Lights Cooper Tires Championship was Ed Jones. He was deemed to be the most intriguing international background descriptors in the industry.
He had been racing in Mazda Road for two long years where he gained his tremendous reputation as one of the best racers on the track. In fact, the driver revealed he had been working long and hard with Geoff Fickling for the two years to improve his performance on the track. He said that without the collaboration, the driver would not have finished first in the race.
At present, Jones is prepping for his IndyCar debut. However, with respect to Austin Versteeg, it had been a long ride for the racer as he bowed out for future Indy Lights Cooper Tires Championship races in the future.
