Jenna Jameson has endorsed a candidate for President in 2012 in a move that reflects unpredictable career and life trajectories.
On the night of Thursday, August 2, while attending an event at the San Francisco stripper venue The Gold Club, Jameson told a CBS staffer, "I'm very looking forward to a Republican being back in office. When you're rich, you want a Republican in office."
While America has too many rich liberals for Jameson's comment to be strictly true, the fact that she's in a position to have an opinion on the subject reflects a shrewdness and entrepreneurial drive that is rare for a person in an industry with far more casualties (physically, socially, psychologically) than successes.
But success Jameson has had. Not only has she been one of the highest-paid porn performers in history, she has also earned millions as a porn mogul, after beginnings that boded better for ending up in a morgue than a mansion.
Born the daughter of a Las Vegas cop in 1974, Jameson endured the early death of her mother, family moves throughout the western US (living largely in trailer parks), and two rapes before running away from home to live with a tattoo artist. She starred in her first porn flick at 19, with the ambition of becoming a star.
Her path, even while achieving her ambition, has included drug addiction and divorces from two fellow porn actors. She claims to have kicked drugs years ago.
In 2000, Jameson and her then-husband, Jay Grdina, founded ClubJenna, an adult entertainment media company. The company initially managed a single website, but grew to include multiple web properties, a film-production unit, and a subscription-based cable channel.
Reports have it that the enterprise was profitable within weeks; and that by 2005, revenues were $30 million and profits were half that. Playboy bought the company in 2006, with Jameson and Grdina staying on as contracted executives.
Her autobiography, How to Make Love Like a Pornstar - A Cautionary Tale, spent six weeks on the New York Times bestseller list in 2004.
Jameson has not appeared in front of the camera in porn since 2009.
Her personal life has never ceased to be erratic. Following her second divorce, Jameson had twin sons in 2009 with mixed martial artist Tito Ortiz. Their relationship was beset as early as 2010 with allegations by her of physical abuse and by him of drug abuse. They nevertheless continue to be referred to in the press as fiancés. This past June, Jameson was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
Still, she's rich.
