Mercedes-Benz has stated they have ambitious EV plans in the making with no less than 10 new models likely to be launched by 2025. All the forthcoming models would be part of the newly formed EQ brand and would form the basis of a spectacular turnaround the company is attempting as it aims to establish its age-old credentials of luxury and refinements in the burgeoning electric vehicle segment as well.

The company though is loath to spill all the beans right away but has stated those would be models aimed at the volume segment and would supplant the conventional cars the company already has on offer, TopSpeed reported. The company chief, Dr. Dieter Zetsche had earlier acknowledged its Tesla that is the company to beat in the EV segment at the moment but that would change once the new Mercedes EVs come on to the scene.

As a pointer of what to expect, Mercedes had showcased an all-electric SUV at the Paris Motor Show as the first vehicle under the EQ sub-brand. The SUV did evoke a strong response from industry insiders as well as visitors owing to its attractive looks and superb EV characteristics which include a 310 miles range along with a zero to 62 mph timing of fewer than four sets.

While, Mercedes have assured the actual production model will deviate ever so slightly from the concept shown at Paris, it is an all-electric supercar that would serve as the crème-de-la crème of the company's EV range. That, according to Motor1, would be in addition to the AMG F1 inspired hybrid supercar that is already confirmed for production. However, there is no word yet as to when the pure electric supercar would be ready for track debut.

For Mercedes-AMG, the new electric hypercar is linked to the very existence of AMG itself. "There will be an AMG pure electric car but I don't know when, said Tobias Moers, head of Mercedes-AMG. "Because otherwise, AMG will disappear as a brand."

It will be interesting to see what other models Mercedes has up its sleeve to take on the likes of the Model S or the Model 3 from Tesla.
