London Olympics: Swiss Football Player Michel Morganella Expelled for Racist Tweet

So apparently there are Olympic athletes with racist tendencies who still don't know not to give vent to them via Twitter.

Michel Morganella, a member of the Swiss Olympic football team, clearly wasn't paying attention last week to the flap surrounding Greek triple jumper Paraskevi "Voula" Papachristou. The Hellenic Olympic Committee announced that Papachristou was barred from the Olympics for posting a tweet seen as disparaging to Africans in her country.

It was announced today that Morganella has been sent home from the London Olympics after posting a racist tweet.

The player's Twitter account has been deleted and accounts vary as to what exactly he said. The Huffington Post reports that he said South Koreans could "go burn" and that they were "a bunch of mongoloids".

The sports blog 101 Great Goals reports that he wrote "I want to beat up all South Koreans! Bunch of mentally handicapped retards!"

The tweet followed Switzerland's 2-1 loss against South Korea yesterday.

Whatever he wrote, the Swiss Olympic Team announced today that he was on his way home. Gian Gilli, head of the Swiss Olympic delegation, announced Morganella's ouster while condemning his remarks.

The following statement was released by Morganella on the delegation's website: "After the disappointing result and the following responses from Korea, I've made a big mistake. I'm truly sorry for the people of South Korea, for the footballers, but also for the Swiss delegation and the Swiss football in general. Of course, I bear the consequences."

Morganella is 23, and currently plays for the Italian football club Unione Sportiva Città di Palermo.
