Volkswagen continues to tease fans with the upcoming release of their first electronic vehicle, the Volkswagen ID, through a new concept video.
Inspired by sci-fi movies such as "Mad Max: Fury Road" with its futuristic setting, the short video also shows the features that will be integrated in Volkswagen's flagship EV, Mashable reports.
Running for about a minute and a half, the video opens with a woman enabling the self-driving features of the car by fetching her in a specific location that she has pre-determined through her mobile phone. A shiny silver VW ID arrives and its doors automatically open and the seats in front also adjust to accommodate the driver comfortably as she gets in.
While driving, the woman then decides to press the Volkswagen logo which prompted the car to activate its Autonomous Driving mode. It can also be seen that the steering wheel of the car retracted, a feature that has been teased when the ID made its debut in the Paris Motor Show last weekend.
Another man with a blue version of the EV is also seen driving the car in the same configuration as the woman's and they peacefully part ways as they cross different roads to wherever their destinations may be. The video then closes with "Think New," the company's slogan for the ID - indicating that the ID will be a totally new experience for those who would be riding it.
Volkswagen ID serves as a first for the company as it delves in the EV industry which is currently dominated by Tesla. According to The Verge, the car can cover up to about 373 miles, which is far more than Tesla's average of 215 miles.
Some early criticisms of the VW ID's launch though involves the attempt to bury the emissions controversy that sent the company into the spotlight last year. With regards to this, spokespersons from Volkswagen confirmed that this move is just their contribution to an upcoming era of "clean and sustainable vehicles."
The VW ID is currently in production and is planned to be launched in 2020.
