The wedding dress of the Duchess of Cambridge - better known as Kate Middleton - has raised approximately $15,521,500 (10 million British pounds) for Buckingham Palace.
The Palace, which is open to visitors in the summer, saw a substantial boost in ticket purchases when the dress was put on display last year. According to Britain's Telegraph, there was a 52 percent increase in spectator traffic to the palace when the newest royal lent her dress to the attractions last year.
Money raised by the yearly palace exhibit goes to the Royal Collections Trust, which manages Queen Elizabeth II's artworks and other valuables. In 2010, the Telegraph says, the trust's income was more than $64.7 million (41.7 million pounds). In 2011, the income was nearly $78 million (50.2 million pounds).
Examiner.com says that 600,000 people visited the palace while the dress was on display. Also displayed were the tiara, earrings, and shoes that Middleton wore on her wedding day, along with the bouquet she carried and the couple's wedding cake.
After last summer, the dress was put into storage.
Official souvenirs of the wedding added $6.2 million (4 million pounds) to the Royal Collections.
Kate Middleton married Prince William on April 29, 2011. Her wedding dress was designed by Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen.
The Telegraph further reports that, in a nod to Middleton's contribution, the Royal Collections has donated $465,645 (300,000 pounds) to the charitable trust that she heads with Princes William and Harry.
The trust, previously named The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry, has just been renamed the Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and Prince Harry.
