Chevrolet is hailing last quarter as its best ever and the seventh straight quarter of record sales.
Chevy sold nearly 1.3 million vehicles worldwide, a 2.3 percent increase over the same period last year. Sixty percent of the Chevy market is now outside the US, and the company saw gains in four of its five largest markets.
Chevy's quarterly US sales totaled 513,538 units, an increase of 5.2 percent over 2011's second quarter.
In China, Chevrolet sold 141,758 units, an increase of 2.3 percent.
Russia became the company's fourth-largest market this quarter, selling 57,286 vehicles, a 13.4-percent increase.
In Mexico, Chevrolet sold 41,435 vehicles, an increase of 11.7 percent over the quarter's 2011 equivalent.
The top-five market that saw a decrease was Brazil, where sales were down 4.2 percent to 153,759 units. The company noted, however, that the Brazilian car industry in general was down 4.8 percent and that Chevy's June sales spiked 7.5 percent.
Chevy is also pleased to compare its performance with the rest of the industry in Western and Central Europe. Chevrolet Europe sold 61,865 vehicles for the second quarter, a 13.6-percent increase in an industry that is down 6.9 percent. In fact, Chevy experienced its highest-ever half-year sales in this region, selling more than 117,500 units, a 10.9-percent increase over the same period last year. The highest-selling model in the region was the Aveo, which sold more than 34,000.
The top-selling Chevy is the Cruze, which has sold 350,000 units so far this year. A Cruze station wagon was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in February for the European market.
Other models launching are the Spark and Malibu for the US market, the Trailblazer mid-size SUV and Colorado mid-size truck for Thailand and other markets, the Spin multi-purpose vehicle for Brazil, and the new Trax small sport-utility vehicle.
