Volkswagen Touareg TDI Sees Increase in HP

Car and Driver reports that the Volkswagen Touareg TDI is having its horsepower beefed up for 2013.

TDI is the "clean diesel" technology available in the Touareg and four other Volkswagens (Passat, Golf, Jetta, and Jetta SportWagen). The technology allows the Touareg 28 mpg and each of the other models at least 42.

Currently, the Touareg TDI lists on Volkswagen's website as having 225 hp, but Car and Driver says that the 2013 model will be capable of 240. Torque is expected to remain at 406 lb/ft.

Of the SUV's increase in power, the magazine says, "This is hardly surprising, given that the Touareg's 3.0-liter diesel V-6 also does tours of duty in the Audi Q7 and new Porsche Cayenne diesel, the latter of which also is powered by the 240-hp engine. (The Q7 apparently soldiers on with the 225-hp iteration for now.)

According to Truck Trend, the Touareg will also benefit from a new 18-inch Karakum wheel design for the Touareg VR6 and Touareg TDI Sport trim package, Vavona wood trim for the Executive and Hybrid models, and LED taillights and a rear license-plate light for the Hybrid.
