Current F3 series championship leader Lance Stroll is making Formula 1 news as all signals point at him as retired F1 driver Felipe Massa's replacement in the Williams team. If this happens, Stroll would be one of the youngest F1 drivers in history and one of the fast rising stars too.
Testing The Waters
As the 2017 Formula 1 draws near, the drivers lineup is almost filled. However, with the recent announcement of Massa's retirement, Williams holds possibly the most attractive seat still available and the rising Canadian racing star may be taking this seat after he was seen testing a 2014-spec Williams FW36, a car also used by Massa and Valtteri Bottas in 2014.
“Lance is in the process of doing extensive simulator work at Williams and has undertaken a team immersion programme to help him develop further as a racing driver,” a spokesperson for Stroll told NBC Sports.
If all goes well, Stroll will be following the footsteps of another F3 racer graduate, Max Verstappen, who is also one of the youngest F1 driver in history.
Leading the F3 Series
Stroll, a promising racer, could reach the pinnacle in the F3 racing category before he even jumps into Formula 1. Currently, he leades by 68 points over Prema teammate Maximilian Gunther, and with just three rounds, or six races left, the 2016 championship is positively on Stroll's side.
“One thing at a time. This year, we’re concentrating on the F3 championship. And then next year, we’ll be in whatever it is: GP2, F1, IndyCar – whatever comes up, we’ll conquer next," Stroll said.
Lance Stroll Father Supports
There is no doubt that Stroll is a talented driver, However, It is not a secret that to reach the Formula 1, talent would not be enough to take him there. Financial support of sponsors or a patron should also come into play. This is one of the things that makes Stroll attractive to any Formula 1 team as he comes with money.
Stroll is the son of Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll, whose net worth is listed by Forbes as $2.4 billion, and that he is said to be supporting his son by paying $35 million dollars to the Williams team to help support the team's practices, equipments and others.
Will Stroll be taking on the Williams seat during the F2 2017? Nothing has been confirmed, but Stroll's fans are without a doubt more excited than ever.
