Ford Motor Company has issued a recall on 2013 Escapes owing to a brake issue.
According to Fox News, the recall affects more than 10,000 cars built between March 8 and June 7. This number includes 8,266 cars in the US, roughly 2,000 in Canada, and a couple of hundred in Mexico.
The alleged culprit for the recall is carpet padding. As drivers of the compact SUVs move their foot from the accelerator, improperly-installed carpet can cause them to come into contact only with the side of the brake pedal.
According to Reuters, Ford intends to remove the carpet padding and left-side control trim panel of the vehicles in question and replace it with a new panel.
The Escape was Ford's second-best selling vehicle last month, with 28,500 sold.
