A mysterious winged logo luxurious looking brand new car that kind of looks like an Aston Martin was seen in TV ads of sports games in the US this weekend. Apparently, this is the new Hyundai Genesis G90, a new flagship brand of Hyundai that aims to compete with the likes of the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series and the Audi 8, at a lower price point. Is it any good? Read on to learn more.
Dropping Hyundai
Following the strategy of successful brands before it, Hyundai's luxury brand will not bear the Hyundai name and will just go with the American-Sounding "Genesis". This is the case of Toyota with Lexus or Nissan with Infiniti and with Honda's Acura. This is only suiting as when tested, one will instantly know that level of luxury really did set it apart from its economy-minded siblings.
The Genesis brand will adopt a new structure of alphanumeric names. Future models will receive their name by combining the letter "G" of Genesis with a number such as the 70, 80 and now the 90. The price point will also be higher as the Genesis will start at $70,000.
Inside and Out
The Genesis' elegant body lines emphasize the long wheelbase and short overhangs, conveying luxury and premium air. The luxurious front grille and dual exhaust outlet are highlighted, which gives the sporty touch behind. The Genesis boasts a very careful design that has been created in the R & D center in Namyang Hyundai (Korea).
On the inside, the Hyundai Genesis seats take colors to premium models and gives you a comfotable ride. It offers more legroom and the steering wheel boasts a large circumference that makes it stand out.
When it comes to the engine, the Hyundai Genesis accommodates the AWD system H-TRAC. The platform now uses 38% more high-strength steel, which is more than 50% of the total composition of it. In addition, the car uses a new multilink rear suspension to provide a guided and more accurate driving.
The Genesis has the most advanced engine that Hyundai offers: A propeller 3.8 GDi petrol V6 with D-CVVT capable of developing 400 hp. It will whisper gently and move with ease achieve 3,000 rpm.
Equipped With High-Tech Controls
The owners of Genesis G80 and G90 can communicate with their cars through Amazon Alexa system. The Alexa makes use of the voice service Amazon Echo while working in conjunction with the services connected on the Genesis. Download the app and you just by a few buttons, one can command the Genesis to open and close windows and doors and even start the luxury car using the app. Most importantly, one can immobilize and then retrieve their Genesis in case of theft using the app.
So what's the verdict for the Hyundai Genesis? Hyundai did the right thing and has come out strongly with the G90. If the popularity of the Genesis will continuously increase, Hyundai will add four more models by the end of 2021. By the looks of it, this could be achieved.
