Los Angeles police pulled over pop singer Justin Bieber for speeding over the weekend.
The teenage pop star was driving his customized Fisker Karma sports sedan on a Los Angeles highway and was stopped by a California Highway patrol officer for speeding.
"Justin Bieber was cited for driving in excess of 65 mph at about 10:45 a.m. on Friday morning, after calls came in complaining of a freeway chase on southbound U.S. Highway 101 near Studio City," said Ming Hsu, California Highway Patrol Officer said to the Daily Reporter.
Bieber reportedly told to officer Hsu that the reason for driving excess speed was to get rid of the paparazzi.
"Justin Bieber was driving like a maniac. He was weaving in and out of traffic. There was hardly any space between cars as he weaved from lane to lane," Dennis Zine, Los Angeles City Councilman and a former LAPD Officer, told TMZ. "I was going 60 and he drove by me like he was in a rocket ship."
California Highway Patrol Police refused to reveal the exact speed they clocked Beiber going, but the Canadian singer was chased by several celebrity photographers when he was asked to pull over.
Video clips posted on X17online.com and TMZ, show a California Highway Patrol police officer walking up to Bieber's car from the front portion of the passenger's seat. Bieber was alone at the time and later another police officer approaches the vehicle in a bike to enquire about incident.
As per the California law, a person convicted of driving recklessly could be sent to jail for up to 90 days and could be fined up to $1,000. Bieber recently received the $100,000 Fisker Karma for 18th birthday. It was given by his manager during "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" in March.
