The heat wave is getting devastating in the United States, raising the temperature to triple-digit in many cities across the nation.

Numerous troubles have been reported caused by the high temperature. NY Times reported that the weather was responsible for the death of at least 36 lives. The high temperatures have also caused highways to buckle in Ill. and Wis. and caused train to derail in Md. In addition, residents have complained about the difficulty of going to sleep in the evening.

Weather.com has reported that many places are setting new record highs. There were 4,920 daily, 827 monthly, and 263 all-time records, according to the report from NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center.

“The number of record highs tied or broken across the nation is staggering,” wrote on the website.

South Carolina had the potential new state record with 113 in Johnston, and Tennessee almost reached its state record, with 112 in Lewisburg. Atlanta, St. Louis, Chicago, and Madison also had triple digit temperature.

Some of the cities that almost broke all-time record high included Washington D.C., Indianapolis, and Louisville, who had 105 as their high Saturday, just one or two degrees under the record.

Although some cool breeze is on its way to lower the temperature next week, here are some of the tips on staying cool over the weekend, provided by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

CDC suggested people to wear light-colored, loose-fitting, breathable clothing. It is also important to drink a lot to stay hydrated, but avoid caffeine, alcohol, and sugar. Taking cool showers and staying inside also help. For those with children and infants, never leave them alone, especially in parked vehicle. In addition, wearing hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen of SPF 15 or higher is recommended before going outside in the day.
