Ever wanted to hop into an old tank and smash stuff like an action hero?
Well the Drive A Tank company provides the opportunity to do just that.
Located in southern Minnesota along the Minnesota River and 54 miles southwest of Minneapolis, the Drive A Tank company allows customers to sit behind the wheel of a tank and run over cars or charge through muddy waters and other types of rough terrain.
The exclusive car park is managed by Tony Borglum, a construction and heavy equipment contractor. Borglum said he opened the park in 2009 after seeing similar attractions during his visit to England.
"I knew it would fit nicely into American culture - a more visceral version of what millions of guys are doing in video games anyway," Borglum said. "It's not as glorious as it looks like on TV."
Borglum said he started buying old Cold War era war tankers and now has 11 armored vehicles available for a fun ride on the over 20 acres of private land. Before allowing the participants to take a rough joy ride, they will be trained with strict guidelines for handling the powerful machines.
Borglum explains that one of the major attractions of the car park is that it has a British Chieftain mark 11 tank, which was featured in the 2002 movie "Reign of Fire." He also has another tanker called "Larry," that weighs more than 60 tons and comes with a top speed of 34 mph (50 kmh).
