Since Red Bull driver Max Verstappen caused a stir during the 2016 Belgian Grand Prix, talks have escalated about him being protected by the FIA since no cause of action has surfaced.
During the 2016 Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Belgium this week, Max Verstappen had been the talk of the town as his fellow drivers have complained about his risky moves in racing. According to Motor Sport, former race champion Jacques Villeneuve claimed that Verstappen may be protected by the FIA since his defense style in racing should have received a cause of action.
Villeneuve also suggested that although the FIA should punish Verstappen for his driving, they are allegedly under dilemma to do such punishment since Verstappen has caused tremendous attention which is good for the competition. On the other hand, Villeneuve did claim that there is nothing wrong with rough driving but since Verstappen's driving was too dangerous, it deserved punishment.
In other news, BBC reported that co-competitors Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel were quite angered about Max Verstappen's racing. In fact, Raikkonen revealed during a previous interview that if the Red Bull driver will not change his ways in driving, he may cause an accident that could hurt his fellow drivers.
The move Verstappen made while he was head to head with Raikkonen was waiting too soon for the opportune moment to play his defense. Verstappen cut Raikkonen in the first corner which was a legitimate move. However, since he reduced the gap between them, Raikkonen and Vettel were forced to assist Verstappen's move on the outside.
Furthermore, it was revealed that three into one lane is a very dangerous situation especially when Verstappen swiftly cut Raikkonen. But, the said move, was, in fact, an allowable one and was said to be just a mere racing incident than a bend of the rules.
Max Verstappen may have caused a stir at the 2016 Belgian Grand Prix and his colleagues Jacques Villeneuve, Kimi Raikkonen, and Sebastian Vettel, the former felt that his moves being overseen may be a sign of favoritism from the FIA.
