More likely, the Soul will feature a 1.6 liter turbo-four. This is found in most Hyundai and Kia vehicles such as the Optima, Tucson, Forte, and the Veloster. This plan can be traced back to 2014 where Kia thought of infusing high powered performance to the Soul in order to make it more marketable. Thankfully, with the airing of Kia's latest commercial, we have now confirmed that the high powered Kia Soul with a turbocharged engine will soon be available.
To prove its upgrading claims, it is now coming with a 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. This can be compared to that of the Veloster and Forte turbo variants. Having a six-speed manual transmission may seem to be a requirement for a sportier variant, it is still not proven if the Soul will have one. But to make things lighter, it is safe to assume that there will be a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. This will surely be a big turn on to those who are used to driving without a stick shift.
Kia is also known to feature this turbocharged engine technology in its previous concept cars - the Track'ster and the Trail'ster. The Track'ster has a 250-hp 2.0-liter turbo-four, while a 1.6-liter turbo-four is found inside the Trail'ster. This is connected to its own electric motor creating a combined 220 hp and 285 lb-ft torque on its system output.
The release date in the winter of this year is only the credible piece of information that is out there. The others are still considered to be rumours and gossips.
The Soul is soon to be out in the market.
However, if you are expecting an all-wheel drive on this turbocharged variant of the Kia Soul, you may want to keep your hopes low because Kia is not risking their focused turbocharged campaign for a wide variety of premium features. Turbo charging their engines is their main concern as of now.
