One of the longest running and best car manufacturers of all time, the Porsche brand has been known as one of the best in the racing arena. Legacy cars like the Porsche 924 GTP, however, left the race track after its defeat at the Le Mans' tour in 1980 and hasn't appeared then, until now.

Nowadays, new models of the known auto brand have sped up in showrooms and auto shows, but the Porsche UK office has been pretty busy with drawing up plans on restoring the Porsche 924 GTP, according to a TopSpeed post. As part of the 924's forty years in car history (after it was introduced in 1976), the former race car had been a pillar of endurance with the help of its 2.0-liter turbo engine.

Still, the Porsche 924 GTP's fast-track performance was owed to its engine's 315hp as well as 282-lb feet torque muscle action. The car also weighed 2,050 lbs., which Porsche went to great lengths with to make it ready to race, as per the news agency.

The 1980 Porsche 924 GTP was a contender among the 3 race cars which were used during the 24 Hours of Le Mans' race, according to AutoBlog. After failing to take home the championship that time, the coupe went to storage as part of the brand's museum collection and has remained in hibernation since then.

A video blog showing the Porsche 924 GTP's restoration can be followed through the Porsche UK site, and the car's overall trim and body work would be carried out by Road & Race Restorations. Photos of the coupe's do-over can give race fans a peek back at a long-awaited history. Wear and tear marks on the legacy coupe-like rough paint and missing body parts told of its remarkable story on the tracks during the 24-hour event, according to the publication.
