The Chrysler 200 was made to conquer the road and bring back the glorious days of the firm. Being the cornerstone of Fiat Chrysler, the decrease in sales and low revenues were unprecedented. Also, it has been noted that despite the massive marketing stance, the Chrysler 200 sedan was not enough to woe the buyers and gain dominion.
The legacy that the Chrysler 200 was projected to become a memorable one, but the plans surrounding the segment did not come into fruition. According to The New York Times, the Chrysler 200 was supposedly the emblem of Chrysler's vision to leave the sidelines, resolve the financial hurdles and gain the top spot. It even appeared in the grand Super Bowl.
To prove the latter, Sergio Marchionne, the chief executive of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles made assertions of how the Chrysler 200 failed in all aspects to dominate both the road and the sales. Its counterparts Toyota Camry and the Honda Accord rendered the Chrysler 200 and has further edged away from the limelight.
The low selling of the Chrysler 200 has pushed the company to implement modifications and massive transformation. Mr. Marchionne has already affirmed that the Chrysler 200 plant would now be transformed to produce Ram pickups, which are Fiat Chrysler's top-selling vehicles, reports Detroit Free Press.
It stands out that Fiat Chrysler would now leave the sanctuary of the sedan segment and move to make muscle cars instead, as further reported by IOL. Also, Mr. Marchionne has also indicated that it aims on abandoning mediocre segments and focus on the segments that can render profits and stability for the company.
There are varying elements that led to 200's fallout but the marketing strategy is not one of them. To confirm the notion, "The marketing was stellar, but the product didn't live up to the hype," said Jack R. Nerad, an analyst with the auto research company Kelley Blue Book.
"You can't make a first impression a second time," Nerad continued. "And when the 200 came out, people found it lacking, whether it was the transmission or the rear seat room or just the quality baggage attached to Chrysler cars."
The failure of Chrysler 200 despite being the cornerstone will always resonate through time, and although it was not enough to woe the crowd of buyers, Chrysler 200's legacy will always remain.
