There is more interesting news for Kia's owners. Kia Motor Co. issued a recall for more than 20,000 Borrego SUVs because of problems with the brake pedal breaking off during a collision. There was recently another recall for faulty airbags.
The recall, issued Wednesday morning and it effects 21,912 Borregos with non adjustable brake pedals which were made between May 2, 2008 and Jan. 20, 2009, according to documents provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
"Certain pedal mounts may have a fiberglass composition that allows them to break off in a collision where impact has not immobilized the vehicle, which could then allow the vehicle to roll," the notice stated.
Kia began to look into the issue in October 2009 but did not have enough information to issue the recall until now, according to NHTSA documents.
Kia will begin notifying people who bought the SUV and dealers will replace the pedal mount free of charge. If you have not heard from the automaker, owners can also contact Kia's customer assistance center at (800) 333-4542 for information.
