The sports sedan based on the Hyundai Elantra is reportedly making its local debut in no time. America and Europe, however, might be waiting much longer.
A New Elantra
According to autoevolution, the vehicle is launching in Korea later this month. Looking at Hyundai's work in sports, the outlet expects the company offering "more for less," with the dubbed Elantra Sport being at least $3,000 cheaper than a Jetta GLI. It must be noted that the car's official name has not been confirmed yet.
In the meantime, prospects can look over spy images of the alleged test mule via Korean source Bobae Dream. One can easily figure out that the prototype is indeed a performance or a "sport" version, as indicated in this image.
Specs & Features
The Indian Autos Blog suspects that the vehicle will likely pack a 1.6-liter petrol engine. Another notable observation is its revamped front end design, which takes on a more futuristic vibe than the rest of the Elantras.
Based on the surfacing photos, prospects can expect LED daytime running lights, front splitter, rear trunk lid spoiler, diffuser tail, larger air vents and two exhaust pipes on the right side. Interior details are mum, but special upholstery in striking colors (two-tone seats) and lowered suspension are speculated. Of course, an infotainment display screen will also be desirable and likely.
Meanwhile, the prototype's wheels are borrowed from Kia, autoevolution said. Specifically, they are said to come from the cee'd GT, which you can check out here.
The vehicle is allegedly run by a 1.6-litre T-GDI petrol engine from the Hyundai Veloster Turbo. This, as per Indian Autos Blog, makes 201 hp and 265 Nm of torque.
