The Beijing Auto Show 2016 is happening in April and will unveil a brand new crossover from Honda. The model was first spotted at the Shanghai Auto Show, dubbed Concept D, but will soon become available for production.
The model, which is currently unnamed, is set to be a notch higher than the Honda CR-V. The crossover vehicle will feature a new front end, although it may keep the Concept D’s coupe-like form and bulging wheel arches, giving it a sleek and sporty look. The new model will be powered by four-cylinder engines made from Honda parts. Clients can also select either two-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
The upcoming Honda vehicle will be produced in China, Digital Trends reported. In the meantime, the crossover seems to be made for selected Asian markets only. It is unlikely that the model will release in Europe, the United States or Japan.
Motor Authority notes that Honda’s luxury division, Acura, will also introduce a new crossover at the Beijing Auto Show 2016. The new vehicle is reported to be a softer version of the small SUV-X concept, which was spotted in Shanghai in 2013. The upcoming model may be referred to as C-DX, and will feature a less futuristic design than the concept. Acura will incorporate some of its new designs in the C-DX.
The Honda C-DX will feature a number of components similar to the HR-V, the company’s entry-level soft-roader. The C-DX will also be put at the lowest of Acura’s crossover lineup. There are reports that the C-DX will be a compact model while others claim that it will be an improved version of the Honda HR-V, making it a subcompact crossover.
Acura is currently aiming to expand the size of its models in China, to cater to the demand for more rear legroom, wheelbase and trunk. The C-DX may be included in Acura’s North American lineup in the next few years and is poised to contend with the Lincoln MKC, BMW X1, Audi Q3, Mercedes-Benz GLA. Production will still be done in China.
More crossover announcements and updates will come from Honda and Acura in the following months. The Concept D-inspired vehicle may launch before the end of 2016, while the Honda C-DX may become available in the United States sometime in 2018.
The 2016 Beijing Auto Show is set on Apr. 25, 2016. More updates and details on the two new crossover models from Honda and Acura are expected soon.
