Latest James Bond movie fans are set for a new twist: one of its featured supercars from Aston Martin has its brother up for a new upgrade, as recently announced by the auto company for an added 7-speed manual option for the V12 vantage model.
CarMagazine UK reported on the V12 Vantage S' shift from its previously available Sportshift III, as the company would add the 7-speed manual upgrade alongside it. Considered by Aston Martin as its fastest and more pronounced Vantage model, the new upgrade is in contrast to Porsche's non-automatic 911 gate. The V12 Vantage is made to position its first gear in a zigzag pattern (to the left and downward), and the usual double H-sequence for the rest of its gears.
Furthermore, its newest gearbox also includes an automatic control-bleep software during downshifts, or more easily said - the heel & toe touch.
The company's product director, Ian Minards, regards the importance of "tradition" in the production of its cars. "The true purist will always hanker for the tactility and connection offered by a manual transmission. At a time when manual transmissions have almost entirely disappeared in high performance cars, this makes the manual V12 Vantage S a very special car indeed," added Minards according to the publication.
The car is also set to sell as a limited special edition of only 100 cars in the US, while Europe and the rest of the world can bank on its unrestricted availability.
In other news, RoadandTrack mentioned that Aston would also be in the process of building an equal but extreme version of its V8 Vantage, as confirmed by the news agency yesterday.
Aston CEO Andy Palmer has always been a huge fan of manual gearboxes, and the 7-speed manual upgrade on the 573PS power, rear-transmission drive V12 Vantage is no exception.
