According to a report carried out by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), there were 3,092 distracted driving related deaths in the United States in the year 2010.
The NHTSA blamed both the U.S. federal government and the automakers for going ahead with installing satellite enabled electronic devices, which may have influenced the high number of deaths. The NHTSA also claimed that it had warned both parties before allowing such devices to be installed for usage on the road.
The U.S. Department of Transportation had made a public comment and showed concern on death related to distracted driving.
"When the driver keeps his distracted mindset on the satellite enabled devices or equipments installed in their respective vehicles have caused major accidents all across the U.S. If a driver looses an eye sight on the vehicles next to him/her, then there's a 90 percent of chances that such vehicles may involve in major road accidents or crashes."
And as if the statistics of deaths or the accident on the roads are not enough, the auto industries around the globe are coming out with the latest satellite enabled equipments and electronic gadgets to attract new buyers. Such marketing attitude has resulted in the increasing in the number of accidents and major crash deaths in U.S.
"When you are behind the wheels are turning your steering then it is utterly very dangerous take off your eyes even for a single second. Even if you are distracted with the electronic gadgets installed in your vehicle, then there's no second chance for a driver to save his life. There's no way to choose between the safety and the technology," says LaHood, a transport official.
