Land Rover has developed a new SUV that can withstand bullets while providing drivers and passengers a luxury experience.
The bullet-proof Range Rover Sentinel comes with armor designed to handle explosions, making the vehicle a good choice for rich people who have dangerous enemies, according to the Daily Mail.
The Jaguar Land Rover explained that the SUV, created through the company's Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) unit, can protect people inside from a "wide variety of attacks" with its "armored passenger cell," which is made of high-strength steel and bullet-proof glass.
Such attacks include 7.62 mm high-velocity, armor-piercing incendiary bullets, 33-pound TNT explosions and DM51 grenades that go off under the floor and on the roof, Gizmag reported. The car also comes with an anti-tamper exhaust, self-sealing fuel tank and auxiliary back-up battery with a split charging system.
Other features in the SUV include a 430 bhp, 3-liter V6 supercharged petrol engine with a ZF 8-speed gearbox and new Dynamic Stability Control and Ride Stability Control systems, which could provide a better chance of escaping attacks through its off-road capabilities. The 20-inch split-rim alloy wheels come with run-flat tires and 380 mm front and 365 mm rear ventilated disc brakes with high-density pads. An emergency escape system was added behind the seats in case the doors are blocked.
With all of this security, the Sentinel bears the appearance of a regular 4x4, the Daily Mail reported. Providing a comfortable experience is also key, as passengers have plenty of legroom to relax. Customers can also choose the color for the paintwork and the interior, with options including Ebony, Ivory and Dark Cherry.
The SUV also comes with a driver training program so customers can learn everything they need to know about the vehicle.
John Edwards, managing director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, claims that the Range Rover Sentinel is "one of the most extraordinary Range Rovers ever produced," Gizmag reported.
"It has been expertly engineered by Special Vehicle Operations to provide class leading levels of protection to occupants against extreme attack, whilst retaining the Range Rover's luxury and refinement with off road capability," Edwards added.
The Sentinel will make its debut at the Defense and Security Equipment International (DSEI) Exhibition at the ExCel arena in London from Sept. 15 to 18. Land Rover is making it available in the U.K., Europe, South America, Africa and the Middle East for $446,000, and drivers can pre-order the SUV now.
