Tesla's Model S P85D appears to be more than satisfactory, according to Consumer Reports, which recently gave the car a grade higher than any other vehicle it has tested.
The non-profit organization gave the P85D, the electric car maker's best version of the Model S sedan, 103 out of 100 points, a record-breaking score, claiming that it was the best car that it has ever tested, Mashable reported.
The test was based on factors of driving like acceleration, transmission, handling and braking, all of which the P85P received "excellent remarks" for. The vehicle received similar marks for its safety performance while getting "very good," "good" or "fair" grades for only a few interior details, such as driving position, rear seat comfort and controls, and display.
The P85D was able to score so high due to its "insane mode," which allowed the car to go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, becoming the fastest car to be tested by Consumer Reports in the process, according to The Verge. The feature is designed to put the car on the same level as the world's greatest supercars in terms of acceleration.
Consumer Reports noted that the sedan was able to achieve this speed while still being "ridiculously energy efficient."
"This is a glimpse of what we can expect down the line, where we have cars with the performance of supercars and the comfort, convenience and safety features of a luxury car while still being extremely energy efficient," Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports' head of automotive testing, told Bloomberg. "We haven't seen all those things before."
Tesla's record-breaking score forced Consumer Reports to tweak its rating system, giving the P85D a final score of a perfect 100, Mashable reported.
"The car set a new benchmark, so we had to make changes to our scoring to account for it," Mark Rechtin from Consumer Reports wrote in a post on Thursday. "Those changes didn't affect the scores of other cars."
While Consumer Reports notes that electric cars still have their challenges, such as a limited range, "the Tesla Model S P85D is an automotive milepost."
