Kasey Kahne won NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on Sunday at Rockingham Speedway in North Carolina.
The 32-year-old had to start the race from the back because he was not able to qualify on Saturday, but Kahne got ahead of Matt Crafton with 46 laps to go and finished the race as first in the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 200.
“I’ve been fortunate to drive some awesome trucks. As soon as I heard about this race, I tried to figure out who I would race for and how we would make it happen,” said Kahne after the race.
“I’ve raced that race so many times through my head on how I could have beaten Matt. I remember so many things about how that raced finished. We definitely searched the first 100 laps of this race and found a lot of speed the second 100 laps," Kahne added.
The Sunday's event was also the celebration of bringing back NASCAR to Rockingham Speedway, or "The Rock", for the first time since 2004. Andy Hillenburg purchased the track at an auction and brought NASCAR back on.
“I got about approximately about 4 1/2 hours of sleep last night and that was plenty enough to ride the truck. Coming to The Rock, I was very much excited that I woke up early. The alarm in my watch supposed to go off at 9 this morning and I woke up at 7.30 in the morning. And afterward I couldn’t get back to sleep. Still I had tons of energy while racing but after this win, I think I’ll sleep a good night on tonight,” shared Kahne about the excitement of racing at The Rock.
The Sunday's win marked Kahne's fourth victory in his five career starts.
