Toyota will unveil its 2016 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid officially next week during the highly-anticipated 2015 New York Auto Show.
This is big news for a number of reasons. For starters, the current model was launched for the 2012 model year and is still the most popular compact SUV on the market today.
A hybrid option will only help sales against rivals like Chevrolet Equinox, Ford Escape and Nissan Rogue, which aren't offered as hybrids.
"A new hybrid joins the Toyota family," Toyota said in its announcement.
Toyota has also said it wants to offer hybrid versions of every volume vehicle available no later than 2020. With the RAV4 Hybrid it seems they're well on their way to that goal.
Toyota currently sells a hybrid option of its Highlander crossover with a V-6 hybrid drivetrain.
The Japan-based automaker released a pair of teaser photos this week revealing the rear end of the RAV4 Hybrid. Besides that we won't know what the RAV4 looks like until next week.
There's a chance the RAV4 Hybrid will use a similar hybrid powertrain to the Lexus NX300h which utilizes a 2.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor to provide 195hp, according to Green Car Reports.
Pricing, specs and an official release date have also not been announced yet by Toyota.
The 2016 RAV4 will be unveiled at 12:30 p.m. EDT on April 2 during the NY International Auto Show.
So far, we've confirmed that the 2016 Chevrolet Spark, 2016 Mitsubishi Outlander and Scion's first sedan and iM production vehicle will all be on hand next week, among others.
