It's been awhile since we've seen a new Ford Bronco. Five distinct generations were made from 1966 through the mid-1990s, though after gaining world-wide attention due to a former NFL MVP's car chase through Los Angeles, Ford decided to stop selling the vehicle.
While we don't want you to get too excited, it does seem like the Bronco could be making a comeback.
On February 26, a U.S. federal trademark registration was filed for Bronco by Ford Motors, according to LegalForce Tradearkia.
The trademark was filed under the category "Vehicles and Products for locomotion by land, air or water." We don't doubt Ford would love to introduce an amphibious car, but a safer bet is to assume Ford is considering bringing back the two-door Ford Bronco SUV.
There is a legitimate chance that Ford is just re-upping their trademark for the brand so Ford Broncos can be featured on t-shirts and in video games once again. For example, last year Toyota reapplied for the Supra trademark, which caused everyone to think a new FT-1 Supra was being released. Since then not a single Supra has been made, despite its clear popularity.
Others believe there's a good chance a new Bronco might star in one of the biggest movies of the summer.
There are rumors that the next Ford Bronco will be featured in the highly-anticipated movie "Jurassic World," starring Chris Pratt, and Bryce Dallas Howard but the Detroit automaker isn't confirming anything yet, according to AutooMobile.
Though we can all imagine Pratt being chased by a T-rex in a Ford Bronco in the fourth installment of the "Jurassic Park" series, a producer of the film is only confirming that one vehicle will be featured in the movie so far: a Mercedes SUV.
The closest Ford has come to releasing a new Bronco was in 2004 when it debuted a concept Bronco during the 2004 North American International Auto Show. The vehicle, which was never released, featured a 2.0-liter intercooled turbodisel I4 engine and a six-speed manual transmission, according to Ford.
Stay tuned as we find out more information on the possibility of a new Ford Bronco and whether or not it will be chased by dinosaurs this summer.
