Tesla Motors' Supercharger network reached a major milestone of 2,000 Superchargers located at 400 Supercharger stations around the world in late February.
The network was created to make traveling easier for Model S owners and lessen "range anxiety"
"The Tesla Supercharger network is the world's largest and fastest-growing fast-charging network," the California automaker said in a company statement. "In 2014, the number of Superchargers increased fivefold. We plan to double the number in 2015."
Each Model S with an 85 kWh battery includes Supercharging, though it can be added to a 60 kWh Model.
There are 9,165 electric charging stations with 23,091 charging outlets in the U.S., according to the U.S. Department Energy.
The charging stations can recharge a growing number of electric vehicles, including the Chevrolet Spark EV, Fiat 500e and Nissan Leaf.
The Model S was recently named the best overall car by Consumer Reports.
"For all of the impressive new vehicles released in 2014, none was able to eclipse the innovation, magnificence, and sheer technological arrogance of the Tesla," the publication said. "That's why it's our best overall pick for the second consecutive year."
The northernmost Supercharger is located in Setermoen, Norway, whereas the southernmost can be found in Sydney, Australia, according to the EV automaker.
The Model S competes with similar vehicles like the Porsche Panamera SE-Hybrid and Lexus LS 600h L.
In its latest shareholder letter, Tesla Motors said it expects to increase the number of vehicle deliveries by more than 70 percent in 2015.
Tesla is busy developing the Model X's successor, the Model 3, which is intended to be an entry-level Tesla vehicle with a 200-mile range and a starting price of $35,000, before government incentives. Deliveries are expected to take place in 2017.
Tesla delivered 9,834 vehicles during the fourth quarter of 2014, and built 11,627, a new company record.
Tesla Motors recently traded at $203.89, down 1.6 percent.
