Things didn’t go well as planned at Okayama Circuit on Sunday when the team went to test the Toyota Prius GT300. The race car, debuted at the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon, caught fire and caused significant damage to the number 31 Prius GT. While the driver was managed to escape surprisingly with minor injuries, the car is likely won’t be repaired in time for March 31 season opener in Okayama.
But the team has something else to say in a blog. It admits that the damage is cosmetic and the fire was caused due to leaked fuel caught onto the exhaust, igniting the flame. As the APR Racing blog noted in a recent update, the fire was kept isolated from the hybrid system components which escaped without damage.
