The 2005 and 2006 models of Ford Taurus is under investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration after receiving complaints that the throttles gets stuck while driving, possibly affecting around 360,000 vehicles.

According to the NHTSA website, the Office of Defects Investigation received 14 complaints from 2005 and 2006 Taurus owners, alleging incidents of a stuck throttle. NHTSA wrote that the problem may have been caused by the cruise control cable detachment. The investigation officially opened last Wednesday.

Although no accidents or injuries have been reported yet, some owners have been put into dangerous situations such as running a red light in an intersection. Some drivers reported that it was difficult to slow the moving vehicle and hat to shut off the engine or shift to neutral to stop.

Daniel Pierce, Ford spokesman, said the company is cooperating in the probe as the Associated Press reported.

The investigation is in a preliminary evaluation stage, which accesses the “scope, frequency, and safety-related consequences of the alleged defect”, and no recall has been made yet.

International Business Times reported that a decision from the NHTSA could take three to six months.
