Parrot unveiled its brand new RNB6 in-dashboard car entertainment system this weekend during the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show, which features a 7-inch, 720p touchscreen (180 x 100mm in size).
The device was designed to run on a custom build of Android, but also has full support for Apple's iPhone CarPlay feature. Either way, drivers will be able to control their smartphone's key functions through their dashboard like never before.
Parrot designed the system to offer onboard navigation, which is integrated with the dashcam, without a phone being plugged in. Drivers can also place calls through Bluetooth (unless connected to CarPlay or Android Auto) to receive climate control updates and vehicle diagnostics without their phone being plugged in as well.
Normal Parrot audio features are also included, like the option to customize the system's audio playback in order to receive the best sound for the specific number of passengers and their locations in the vehicle.
Internal specs and features announced during CES 2015 include: Bluetooth 4.0 and configurable 5GHz Wi-Fi, rear ports for GPS, HDMI, microphone input, ethernet, onboard diagnostics and USB devices.
There is a good chance the device could cost up to $800 since that's around how much Pioneer's NEX units cost. RNB6 is half the weight and thickness of most 2-DIN systems, according to Parrot.
Parrot has not released a suggested price for the RNB6 yet, but did mention during the unveiling that it would be shipped out sometime in late 2015.
The 20 year old company based in Paris, France has already created a wide range of different products like headphones and drones. Parrot started off by making PDAs in the 1990s, then transitioned to voice recognition devices for inside your car, according to its company website.
Make sure to check back as more news regarding RNB6 gets released.
CES 2015 runs from Jan 6-9.
