Hyundai is planning on showing off a new Display Audio system with no CD player or embedded navigation system next month at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show.
Display Audio is a high resolution seven-inch color touch-screen designed specifically for the latest generation Blue Link system and enhanced smartphone integrations.
All iPhone owners will be able to use Apple CarPlay to take the features they like from their iPhones and put them right on the touch-screen display during their drive. Android Auto brings the Android experience into vehicles by "projecting" apps and services into the new system.
Display Audio will be featured on select 2016 Hyundai models and are expected to quickly become Hyundai's volume head unit. Eventually, the automaker hopes to bring the new infotainment system to all of its entry-level models.
Display Audio will offer entertainment apps for music, news, sports, and Podcasts. Apple CarPlay offers support for apps like Beats Music, iHeart Radio, MLB At Bat, Spotify, Stitcher, CBS Radio News and Podcasts and more. Android Auto's app roster features the same apps along with SoundCloud, Pandora, TextMe and WhatsApp.
Each partner has plans to add more apps in the future that won't require any vehicle software updates, according to the automaker.
The system will also utilize Hyundai's innovative in-vehicle technology by offering a multi-use home screen and HD Radio capability with AM, FM and SiriusXM options.
"Hyundai will offer more technology than ever before inside affordable Hyundai models, allowing owners not only to text message through voice commands and stream their favorite music apps, but also to make calls in a safer way, and navigate using phone-based, off-board navigation through the car's screen and controls," said Cason Grover, senior group manager, cross-carline planning, Hyundai Motor America, in a press statement. "As affordable car buyers are often younger, Hyundai aims to provide what they want most in their car - all the latest smartphone-enabled technologies at a lower price."
Hyundai's exhibit will be located at the North Hall, booth #2818 at CES and will be open from Jan. 6-9, 2015.
