On the hunt for a holiday gift for someone who loves cars? A handy automotive app that measures mileage, acceleration and other data might be just the thing.
DashCommand, an app that has been named SEMA Global Media Winner four times, is a top choice among aftermarket auto data apps for the everyday driver and car fan, according to Top Speed.
What is it?
The DashCommand app gives your vehicle "a virtual dashboard that puts all the vital performance numbers and engine parameters in one place," the company said.
Visible on certain smartphone and tablet screens, the app shows horsepower and torque; boost and vacuum pressure; air to fuel ratio; engine coolant temperature; two fuel economy figures; and more.
The app connects to the vehicle's OBD-II port through a separately purchased OBD-II connection device; DashCommand analytics can be sent to a computer to give drivers a closer look at the information.
DashCommand, which is also a SEMA Show 1st runner-up for best mobile electronics product, gets deep into vehicle details, covering areas ranging from performance to fuel mileage to trip information such as fuel cost and maximum speed.
"Whether they are seeking to monitor the tune of a track car or get the best performance out of their street machine, users have up to 229 OBD-II parameters at their fingertips," DashCommand said.
Where can I get it?
DashCommand is available for iOS and Android. Designed for both iPhone and iPad, the iOS version is on the iTunes App Store for $9.99. Android users can get a version for their smartphone or tablet for $9.95 at the Google Play Store.
Google Play offers a free evaluation version of the app, which then must be purchased for full functionality. Users should double-check that their vehicles are OBD-II/EOBD compliant before purchasing DashCommand.
