The Exige S lineup has been expanded for 2015 to include a six-speed automatic transmission that reflects the car's sporty characteristics.
"By introducing a paddle-shift, we have expanded the Exige product range to make it more accessible to customers worldwide," Lotus Group CEO Jean-Marc Gales said in a statement. "Now, customers who are more accustomed to two pedals and automatic transmissions can enjoy the unbelievable performance and handling of the Exige S without compromise."
Lotus continues to update the model overseas, but the Exige is no longer available in the U.S., according to Motor Authority. To be offered starting in January, the automatic transmission will be an option for both the Exige S coupe and Exige S Roadster.
Drivers can select "sport" or "race" mode on the automatic for a more dynamic riding experience.
"Optimized gear selection and response deliver quicker all-round performance when a sportier experience is desired," the automaker described.
Lotus is in the final stages of testing Exige S prototypes that are equipped with automatic transmissions.
The Exige S with a six-speed automatic transmission is as fast as the manual version on the track and even hits zero to 100 kilometers per hour, or roughly zero to 60 mph, 0.1 seconds faster than the Exige S equipped with manual transmission at 3.9 seconds.
Cost for the new automatic will add around £2,000 for U.K. customers and €2,185 in Europe.
