Federal regulators have given the 2015 Honda Odyssey minivan the highest possible safety rating of five out of five stars after crash testing.

The new Odyssey, which is available at dealerships now, earned five stars in front and side impact crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and four stars for the rollover test, Edmunds.com reported.

The minivan competes with the Chrysler Town & Country, which received a four-star overall safety rating after NHTSA crash tests, as well as the Nissan Quest and Toyota Sienna, neither of which have yet been rated.

In the standard trim, the 2015 Odyssey has "six airbags, antilock brakes, brake assist and vehicle stability assist with traction control," according to Edmunds. Additional safety options include features such as systems to warn about oncoming forward collisions or inadvertent lane departure.

The two safety systems are available as a package on Odyssey EX-L, Touring and Touring Elite models.

While the 2015 model hasn't yet been rated by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the 2014 Odyssey received scores of "good" in crash tests conducted by the nonprofit earlier this year.

The Odyssey was named a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in February, earning "good" scores in every crash test conducted by the IIHS, including the challenging small overlap front and moderate overlap front crash tests.
