Hewlett-Packard Co. will outline its entry into the 3D-printing business by this October, according to a report by Reuters.
The computing company is looking to extend its dominance of traditional printers into a fast-growing market.
Last week, Chief Executive Meg Whitman said the company would make an announcement by June, since HP has solved a number of technical issues that have stalled "broader adoption of the high-tech manufacturing process," according to Reuters.
In a blog post released last weekend, HP claimed that Whitman "inadvertently" misspoke, and the company was instead planning to make an announcement by the end of the fiscal year.
HP's fiscal year ends in October, according to Reuters.
Whitman added last week that HP's main focus will be on 3D-printing for enterprises, not the consumer market, according to Reuters.
HP's addition ion into the 3D-printing business could mean trouble for smaller companies like Makerbot and Stratasys.
It could also help counter criticism from a number of analysts who feel HP is over-hyped and "too immature" for widespread consumer use, according to Reuters.
