The 2014 Detroit Auto Show won't be particularly noteworthy for its green car selection with only a few models that innovate in fuel economy and efficiency, according to Green Car Reports.

The event doesn't include any planned global debuts of plug-in electric vehicles, hybrids or diesel cars. But cars in general seem to be becoming more "green," the outlet noted. The corporate average fuel economy rules in place through 2025 mean that each new model should earn EPA fuel-efficiency ratings that are better than the vehicle it replaces.

The 2015 Ford F-150 pickup truck, the 2015 Ford Mustang first seen in December and maybe new vehicles from Chrysler-Fiat will probably be the popular introductions at the upcoming show, according to Green Car Reports.

The new 2015 Honda Fit is likely the "most important" eco-friendly vehicle to launch at this year's North American International Auto Show, Green Car Reports said.

The five-door subcompact is already on sale in Japan, where its Fit Hybrid iteration is popular, although Honda doesn't plan to sell the hybrid version in the United States any time soon.

In the subcompact segment, the new model goes up against the Chevrolet Sonic, Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Nissan Versa and Toyota Yaris.

While it's still up in the air, Tesla Motors may reveal the production version of its Model X utility vehicle at a press conference scheduled for Jan. 14, Green Car Reports said.

The all-electric Model X crossover will go into production by the end of the year, according to Tesla. The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company hasn't yet released details on the planned press conference.

Volvo also plans to feature a crossover vehicle, the four-door Concept XC Coupe. The Swedish carmaker has teased the concept, which may feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain.
