'Veronica Mars' Returns to Hometown and Murder Mysteries in New Trailer

"Veronica Mars" fans can rejoice. The trailer for the new movie about the girl sleuth has been released, and the film has been given a spring release, Entertainment Weekly reported.

The trailer debuted exclusively on E! News and reveals that in the new movie, Veronica (Kristen Bell) finds out that a former love interest has been accused of murdering his girlfriend.

Of course, Logan Echolls (Jason Dohring) couldn't be guilty, but will Veronica risk a relationship and high-power job in New York City to help him out?

In the film following up the three-season series, Veronica will return to her hometown to unravel a murder mystery. "Veronica Mars" ran for three seasons on the CW and gained something of a cult following after its abrupt ending.

Bell and creator Rob Thomas launched a Kickstarter campaign and successfully raised funding for the film. Calling for donations of $2 million, the campaign was the likely the biggest in Kickstart history, according to E! News.

"This project has been a labor of love for everyone involved--me, the cast, my producing partners," Thomas said in a statement. "We are so grateful for the outpouring of support from the Kickstarter backers. This movie wouldn't have happened without them."

Most of the movie was shot over the summer with post-production taking place during the fall, Thomas said.

"We will make the sleuthiest, snarkiest, it's-all-fun-and-games-'til-one-of-you-gets-my-foot-up-your-ass movie we possibly can," Bell wrote on the official campaign page last spring. "I promise to give it my all. I promise to work my hardest to give everyone a little bit more Veronica, and I will be oh so honored to do so."
